Soap and Old Aprons

Doug and I walked down the charming main street all lit up and decorated for Christmas. We paused at the window displays of the antique stores, and found some wonderful things for our family for gifts. Along the way, I came across a long gingham apron, with pockets and intricate cross-stitch design along the edges. It was billed as over a hundred years old and I can imagine the women that have worn it before me. I added it to my pile at the register.

You see, I seem to boarder on hoarder then fling back to minimalist, give half my things away, and then immediately regret it and have to go buy it again. One of those things was aprons, another is soap making supplies.

Well, thank goodness for this blog, y’all, because the instructions I lost to make soap are clearly written out on a blog post from ten years ago. As we got down to our last two bars of luscious soap (a batch of soap lasts a long time!), I thought I would just buy someone else’s soap. Alas, I could not find any homemade soap made with essential oils or near as soothing as our own. So, in our proper homestead, old fashioned way, I jumped on Cyber Monday and ordered supplies to make soap! We are both looking forward to a fresh batch!

To make soap, here is the link!

Over twelve years of homesteading, we have made soap, wine, canned everything under the sun, gardened, raised animals, read by oil lamp light, hand washed clothes, stood under the stars to hang clothes on the line, lost farms, gained farms, lived in an apartment, and so much more! Gosh, just anything you want to learn, just type into the search section of my site and off you’ll go!

Now, that we are settled into our forever cottage, we can choose what we can do here. A wood stove wouldn’t fit in our tiny abode, but I think I can get Doug to put up a clothes line for me. We can field fence in a 20×10 section of dirt driveway to garden without the help of deer. I could ask the town if we are allowed just a few hens for eggs and entertainment. Of course the smell of fresh baked bread will fill my house as I walk around in my “new” apron. And I’ll need to find canning supplies again, because, well, sometimes I just don’t think when moving and end up giving away too much stuff! That won’t happen again! I’m home.
