Are Blogs a Thing of the Past?

When I first began blogging, it was a fairly new idea and it was so exciting to be able to take my love of writing and our adventures and share them with the world. This was before blogs were covered in annoying advertisements! Blogging was a way to reach others and connect with like-minded folks. It was a way to learn and teach and make people laugh. This blog has always felt like a gift to me.

When I first began, I so enjoyed sharing our wacky farming adventures and talking to other homesteaders around the world. We all used to comment on each other’s posts and I became pen pals with some of them.

The past twelve years brought with it so many ups and downs, as life does. Through it all, the message has remained the same, that family, friends, community, living close to nature, providing what one can to sustain themselves, natural living, and a simpler life always leads to the best life.

On a whim, we moved to Alabama last summer and it has truly been one of the most difficult times of our lives. Our house has been on the market for over three months. We are desperately trying to get back to our kids and grandkids, and we will. What I miss is what I gave up. It will be interesting to see what is next in our life. A year of doing nothing has certainly helped identify what I miss and what I want to do! And I would love to keep writing about it. I have more tricks to teach and more things to experience, and I dare say, more chickens to get. (Shh! Don’t tell my husband quite yet!)

The question is, are blogs a thing of the past? Do you enjoy this blog? Do you still take the time to read blogs? Are you a blogger?

I guess I always have loved things of the past! Might be time to get my apron back on.

  1. I love country homesteading blogs. just hard to blog like I used to and it’s especially hard keeping up with all the other bloggers. I love seeing how everyone is doing though. We moved too, from Phoenix to Arkansas. Phoenix got so bad, it was becoming too dangerous, too hot and too expensive to live there. Plus we couldn’t really grow anything. I always loved your blog. I hope you sell you house too so you can be close to your love ones.

    • I agree, if I go without writing for a while, I don’t see what everyone is writing. But I’d like to make it a regular habit again. It’s nice to see the world through everyone else’s words.

  2. I don’t think blogs are a thing of the past, I hope not anyway, but I know a few have moved over to substack lately. I hope you’ll stick around, I always enjoy your posts, though I’m sorry your move to Alabama hasn’t worked out. X
