Heading Home (moving back to our favorite place)

There are things we have really missed since moving out to this homestead in Calhan.  We miss the people of Elbert County.  We are there quite often for this or that, our bank is there, our daughters work there, but we are also far away.  I love going to the grocery store and it taking two hours because I know someone in every aisle and stop and visit with them.  I love knowing everyone in a restaurant.  The ladies at the bank ask how the kids are.  I miss the smiling faces of the girls at the library.  I love Elbert, Kiowa, and Elizabeth and their shared camaraderie and all the people they hold.

Our wonderful, long-time friends are letting us move into their guest room this week.  We will be two blocks from our friend who has sweet Isabelle the goat.  Back in a small town where we can walk to the convenience store and the library, take in the sunrises, and wave to folks walking by at dusk.  A place to garden and a place to paint.  Friends to laugh with.

We are heading home.

It is the atmosphere too. In Calhan no one really talked to anyone. In my town trio everyone feels welcome. Country music is played everywhere you go and people are comfortable and relaxed. Love it!

Sounds perfect, love small towns, we live in a small town in a big town, its a funny place there is a little bit of everything in a very small area and most people are friendly, I think I’m the only one playing country music, we live in a little place called Overchurch which has a very deep history and was recorded in the Doomsday book of 1086 but there’s history dating back to 600 AD and you can almost feel history, and if we miss the city lol which is not often, from our house we can be through the tunnel and in Liverpool in less than 15 minutes 🙂

Looking forward to the blogs from town! At least you gave it your best and the fact that you were thwarted is in no way due to your efforts! There will be other chances to homestead just a bit further down the line if it’s meant to be and if it isn’t something else will be your next challenge!

Dirt roads, small town, still in the country. I’ll be happy.

Elbert is a nice area of Colorado. I really like Larimer where I am at but there are quite a few places in Colorado that are nice.

You really can’t go wrong in Colorado!

It must be a wonderful feeling to have found that place in this world where you feel most at home. That place you can call home. We are still searching.

It is home for now. We’ll see where our dreams lead us!
