Part of my homesteading journey is to be more sustainable, more environmentally friendly. I look at my grocery list and think, what can I make? The scrubber by the kitchen sink was starting to get a little gross, but before I put it on the shopping list, I decided to try and make one.

There is yarn specifically for dish scrubbers! It is a little rough and it’s nice and sturdy. I automatically chose a cheerful marigold color (that incidentally matches my new bright yellow kitchen!) from my local yarn shop and got to work.

Chain (I guess I should have counted that, maybe 50?!) until it is about a foot long. Turn, chain two, then single crochet. Continue until you have a piece that is about 12 inches long and four inches wide. Tie off leaving a loop but don’t cut the yarn!

Now, fold in three and crochet around two edges (or sew) to hold together, then tie a knot and cut the yarn. You should have one side open that can hold soap to make a shower scrubbie or to wash dishes with your own homemade soap. (click here for soap recipe)

There is something really satisfying about making, growing, baking, brewing, and creating what is around you. I enjoyed this easy, quick project. It would make a good gift with homemade soap! Happy crocheting!
