I am slightly obsessed with feathers, I’ll admit. My other name is Bird Woman, so I guess it makes sense! I find them everywhere I go.

If you are also an avid bird watcher and explorer, you may find a feather here and there. There are a few ways to kill mites on feathers. You could use boric acid, but that is rather toxic to everything, including the mites. You could use diatomaceous earth, but when you are doing ceremony, you will be spraying everyone with powder. My favorite way is to put them in the freezer. If you see any shaved off looking rigid edges on your feathers, you can be sure something is munching them. Put them in a resealable freezer bag and pop in them in the freezer. This works to protect old fur and moths trying to get into wool. My poor husband can’t even find the ice trays for the piles of feathers and such in the freezer.

Leave them in the freezer for 48 hours. Take out for 24 hours. Put back in for 24 hours. That ought to do it. Then just keep an eye on them in the future and repeat as necessary.
In other news…boy, am I about to have big news! Double big news! Doug told me not to tell anyone until all the paperwork is done and all that. (So, I’ve told everyone I’ve seen thus far.) But, I will announce on here soon. The adventures just keep coming.
