My gardening book is in its final stages! I cannot wait to share it with you. In the meantime, I wanted to share with you a recipe I made up to feed my plants.

I do not like buying bottles of fertilizer and plant food that have warnings about getting near water or poisoning the dog. Even the organics have these warnings! So, I set out to create something better.
My grandma always watered her plants every week or two with leftover coffee. One time she used decaf and told me she damn near killed her plants! Plants, like homesteaders, enjoy their caffeine.

Seaweed is used in some formulas of organic plant food. Doug likes to munch on dried seaweed and put it in his ramen. You can find it in the Asian section of the health food store for sure. I bet it is at Walmart too.
Mineral Rich Plant Food
Brew 3 cups of seaweed tea by combining 1/4 cup of dried seaweed with three cups of boiling water and let sit for an hour or so. Strain.
Add to that 1 cup of cooled coffee leftover from the coffee pot.
You’ll have 1 quart of plant food. To administer to plants, dilute what you need 50/50 with fresh water. Water plants once a week to once a month with solution.

I plan on making this in bigger batches to water garden plants as well! I got my spring crops planted. How is your garden doing?
