Decorating Dreams

I am looking forward to decorating a new house. Always the perk of moving for me is a fresh palette.

I have had a love for design since I was very young. My mother used to rearrange the furniture regularly and loved wallpaper and fresh paint. I used to peruse antique shops with my babysitting money as a preteen and have been know to rearrange my home every month. A new cupboard color is to be expected.

My past two homes have been exquisite upon moving in. New paint, new floors, new fixtures, it has all been lovely, but to be honest, I did not put my full stamp on the last two homes because they were so nice already, that I was afraid to mess them up! I am a terrible painter, it would never do to drip paint on precious new floors! Our price range moving back to Colorado pretty well promises that we will not have a newly renovated house! ha! But, that allows me to sense the spaces for what they are. What they want to be. What I want them to be! Thankfully, my husband only requires a comfortable chair and fair lighting to be happy. He gives me complete creative freedom in our homes. He’s a keeper.

I missed the boat with design, I think. I didn’t go to school for it because I was daunted by the mathematics aspect of it all. But, I have walked into every home from the age of twelve and redecorated it in my mind. I have an aspiration to help regular folks, like me and Doug, to make their house spectacular and truly their own. Who can afford a fancy interior decorator?! Not those of us who work for non-profits or are self employed or are housewives, that’s for sure! I’d love to go in and help folks see their spaces in a new way, utilizing what they have already and perking up details that can make all the difference. Ooh, I’d love that.

In the meantime, I am packing up my home to sell. I knew from the moment we got here that it wasn’t for me, though I sure tried. I miss the west/southwest, my people, and the landscapes I know and love. Oh, and the lack of bugs.

I’ll need a studio, of course. And some paint.

…I better get back to packing!

  1. oh Katie I don’t know how you do it. We really need to think about moving in the next few years. This house and the garden will be too much eventually. I dread it. Good luck with the packing, as I’ve said a few times now if you were close I would send Nick over to do it as he was and still is an expert! Once a removals man always a removals man 😂 keep me posted and good luck house hunting.
